Our Approach

At Providence Sports Medicine – Spokane, our team of specialty-trained sports medicine physicians evaluate, treat and rehabilitate people of all ages, from young children to active older adults. We offer comprehensive care with an integrated team to help you stay engaged in the activities you love, reduce the risk of future injuries and improve your overall performance.

As a part of the Providence Orthopedics and Sports Medicine Institute, Providence Sports Medicine physicians are experts in the field. They are fellowship-trained, board-certified and have undergone extensive training in the field of sports medicine.

The Providence Sports Medicine team also works in partnership with local orthopedic surgeons, physical therapists, radiologists and athletic trainers to provide optimal health care. As the sports medicine provider for several high schools in the Spokane area, you’ll see our teams working alongside athletes to prevent and care for injuries and keep them at the top of their game.

Injuries that cause persistent discomfort or chronic pain should be taken seriously. Our sports medicine physicians can treat both acute and chronic injuries and help you get back to the activities you love.

Acute injuries

Acute injuries can occur suddenly and are often the result of direct impact during a contact sport. This might look like spraining your ankle while snowboarding or tearing your ACL while playing soccer.

Some acute injuries we treat are:

  • Fractures, uncomplicated
  • Joint injuries
  • Sprains, strains, tears
  • Tendinitis
Chronic or overuse injuries

Chronic injuries typically develop from repeating the same movement, which can cause pain or discomfort over time. Examples include tennis elbow or a competitive rower developing shoulder pain.

Some chronic injuries we treat are:

  • Bursitis
  • Osteoarthritis
  • Overtraining syndrome
  • Stress fractures
  • Tendinopathy
Sports-related medical conditions

Whether an injury or illness happens on or off the field, it can still impact your game. We’re committed to prioritizing prompt and compassionate treatment for a variety of sports-related conditions, such as:

  • Acute illness in athletes, such as mononucleosis, flu, skin infections
  • Relative Energy Deficiency in Sport, commonly known as RED-S
  • Sports concussion

If your condition isn’t listed, please give us a call to see how we can support you.

Having a physician with a strong background in sports-related care is an advantage for athletes and active individuals.

Providence sports medicine physicians are fellowship-trained with experience in injury prevention and management, concussion care, diagnostic ultrasound and ultrasound-guided procedures.
