About St. Patrick House

The Mission at St. Pat’s House is to meet the basic human needs of a patient or family member dealing with a stressful medical situation. Our job is to provide a private space of comfort to rest, process, and plan during this traumatic life event. Our House meets fundamental needs – a clean and comfortable bed, a private bathroom space to take a shower, warm cookies and fresh coffee, and perhaps a kind smile and compassionate ear to listen to the day’s struggles as the need to vent arises. Our guests come from different counties, states and countries, all with the same need – a place of respite.

The stories of our guests become a part of the history of our house. A patient commuting two hours each way to a doctor’s visit discovers that he needs to find alternative living arrangements for blocks of time while receiving radiation or chemo treatments. A family driving down the interstate for a family vacation in Montana finds their lives tragically altered when a drunk driver hits them head-on and kills their son. A wife of 50 years anxiously awaits her husband’s prognosis after his sudden stroke, wondering what she’ll do if he passes on. Whatever the situation, and whatever the story, our doors are open 365 days a year, 24 hours a day.

The faces of those we serve drive me back to the Mission of St. Patrick House each day. Witnessing the tears rolling down the cheek of the young mother who has just found out she has breast cancer is a sobering reminder of how important the House is to the people we serve.

St. Patrick House is a beautiful place. Not just aesthetically, though we have had a recent facelift with beautiful rooms. But it is beautiful in that it provides that critical need to a patient or family member in crisis. It provides a space away from the hospital or doctor’s office to reflect, a space to get a shower and rest during what might be the most traumatic experience in a person’s life.

We are here, and we provide those basic needs – one traveler at a time, one night at a time.

If you are visiting this page as a potential guest, please give us a call and let us know how we can meet your need while in Missoula for medical reasons. If you are one looking for information about a worthy cause to “give back” to in the form of a donation or as a volunteer, please call me or send an email.

We would love to hear from you, and we hope to see you soon at the House.
