Volunteer Program

- Greet and escort patients and families to locations within the hospital
- Assist staff with visitor inquiries, paperwork, and deliveries
- Discharge ambulatory patients
- Greet and direct patients, family members and visitors
- Assist with patient inquiries and be the communication liaison between the staff and visitors in the waiting areas
- Provide support to unit staff as needed

- Transport specimens to lab, supplies from central, blood bank etc. (duties vary dependent on age of volunteer)
- Assist unit secretary with answering phones and patient call lights
- Make rounds to patient rooms to determine any pending patient needs

Provides calming music to promote a healing environment in our Lobby area.

Pet Therapy Dogs must be certified through organizations such as Pet Partners or Therapy Dog International. Handler (owner) and dog visit with patients, visitors and staff throughout the hospital
- Required to have excellent customer service skills
- Assist visitors, patients and employees with their purchases
- Restock items
- Use cash register and credit card processing machines
- Pre-requisite: Must already be a Eucharistic Minister and position must be approved by Spiritual Care Department.
- Distribute communion to patients, family and staff on assigned units to those who desire to receive it.
Cancer Center Data Management
- Must be comfortable working with basic computer programs
- Assisting staff with gathering and inputting data
- Cancer Center Infusion
- Providing support to unit staff and rounding to determine patient needs

- Greeting incoming guests and providing accessibility to information regarding cancer resources

- Assist with patient inquiries and be the communication liaison between the staff and visitors in the waiting areas

Pre-Requisite: Resource Therapy volunteers must be approved by the Volunteer Services Manager and Rehabilitation Staff Manager

All of St. Jude Medical Center’s volunteer opportunities, regardless of age group, are clerical-based (non-clinical, no job shadowing or internship opportunities).
If accepted into the program, all volunteers are required to complete the following (about one month from orientation date to complete):
- Attend mandatory Volunteer Orientation
- Background Check (for those 18 years of age or older)
- Health Screening
