Aortic Expertise

Behind every patient at the Aortic Center is a dedicated team of experts. Hear from some of our cardiothoracic surgeons on what makes our Aortic Center unique and how our specialists collaborate to bring you coordinated, whole-person care.

How Can Aortic Disease Impact You?

When an aortic problem arises, like an aneurysm, it can become serious very quickly. However, with the right care and early detection, it can also be manageable. Our experts specialize in a variety of aortic conditions, treatments and surgeries to help you stay informed and take more control of your health.

Acting like your heart’s final gateway, the aortic valve on the left side of your heart is where oxygen-rich blood is pumped from the heart into the aorta – your body’s largest artery, which is vital in delivering blood to organs and tissue. If the aorta or aortic valve are damaged, your risk of developing a serious or life-threatening condition increases.

In the U.S., 5-7% of people over the age of 60 have aortic aneurysms; ruptures claim approximately 15,000 lives each year. Other forms of aortic or aortic valve diseases include:

  • Aortic dissections
  • Aortoiliac occlusive disease
  • Atherosclerosis
  • Bicuspid aortic valve disease
  • Genetic disorders

Many patients don’t know they have aortic disease; often it doesn’t show signs or symptoms. Frequently, it’s found incidentally on imaging studies performed for unrelated health concerns. If your family has a history of aortic conditions like aneurysms, bicuspid aortic valve, dissections or sudden cardiac death, you may be at an increased risk for having aortic disease.

Our team of specialists can help you understand your potential risk for aortic disease and discuss screening options. Call our office at the number above to get additional information or help with a referral.

Patients with aortic disease or conditions turn to Providence for our trusted expert care, backed by decades of experience and leading technology. The specialized cardiac and vascular surgeons at Providence Heart Institute conduct hundreds of these procedures each year – far above the national average of 5-10 aortic surgeries – showcasing the breadth and expertise of our dedicated team. Our collaborative approach, investment in advanced technology and compassionate approach to care make Providence a leader in aortic surgeries.

Part of the Providence Heart Institute, our Aortic Center is at the forefront of cardiovascular innovation and research. We actively participate in both clinical trials and clinical research to advance the understanding and treatment of aortic diseases.

With clinical trials, we contribute to the development of new treatments that have the potential to significantly improve patient outcomes. Our involvement in clinical research helps refine existing procedures and fosters the creation of novel approaches tailored to each patient’s unique needs. For patients, this means receiving care that is informed by the latest scientific advancements and also personalized and aligned with the highest standards of medical excellence.
