Planning Your Visit

We understand how overwhelming scheduling an infusion appointment can be. Here is some important information about how to schedule a visit, what you’ll need to provide and what to expect on treatment day.

Providence Regional Medical Center has a parking garage available for a daily fee, and street parking is also available. Please note that the Outpatient Infusion Clinic and parking garage are located at the Colby Campus off Colby Avenue and 13th Street. You can review directions and parking availability for the Colby Campus on our Providence Regional Medical Center campus map page.

A referral from your physician is required before we can schedule an appointment with you.

You may schedule your appointment by calling our reception staff at the number above. If our receptionist is unavailable, please leave a voice message with your name, return phone number and birth date. We check messages regularly each morning and throughout the day.

Many of the infusion treatments that we provide may require pre-authorization from your insurance provider before treatment. Prior to scheduling your first appointment, we’ll work with you and your physician’s office staff to get the authorization.

We schedule patients based on the anticipated treatment time, so it’s important for you to be on time for your appointment.

Please check-in for registration at the front desk 5 minutes before your scheduled infusion. If you arrive late, we’ll make every effort to treat you, but your appointment may need to be re-scheduled. Please remember to bring your photo identification.

Treatment rooms have a comfortable recliner chair and an area to hang your personal belongings. You’re welcome to bring personal diversion/entertainment devices – computer, tablet, handheld game, cell phone, book, magazines, iPod, DVD player, etc. – and snack food of choice from home.

Our infusion center amenities include:

  • Interpreter services
    • Please notify us during appointment scheduling if you’d like us to make this service available to you.
  • Pillows and warm blankets
  • Snacks for patients, upon request*
  • WiFi

*Snacks are provided to patients only. Your companion may bring their own snacks or a meal. Food or beverages are available for purchase at the café and cafeteria.

We want to ensure you’re mentally and physically prepared for your infusion treatment. Here are some best practices:

  • Drink plenty of fluids the day before, unless directed otherwise by your physician.
  • Dress comfortably and bring layers. The infusion center’s temperature can fluctuate throughout the building.
  • Give yourself enough time to arrive 15 minutes before your appointment. This allows you to navigate traffic or public transit, find parking and locate the infusion center.

Treatment time can vary depending on the type of infusion you’re receiving. There are other factors that may influence the duration of your treatment, such as:

  • Lab testing – Some infusions require lab tests to be drawn prior to the scheduled infusion.
  • Medication preparation – Treatment medications are only prepared by our pharmacy after you arrive and check in.
  • Pre-medications – Many treatment programs require pre-medication. The length of time between taking the pre-medication and starting your infusion can be 15-60 minutes.

Check with your nurse for an estimate of your treatment time or any other questions or concerns.
