32 Providence hospitals honored for commitment to environmental stewardship
Practice Greenhealth names five Providence hospitals in the Top 25 nationwide
RENTON, Wash. [May 27, 2025] – Providence has added two hospitals to its extensive list of facilities to receive a Practice Greenhealth award, and the system overall has been named a System of Change for the fifth straight year.
These honors are part of the annual awards program from Practice Greenhealth, one of the nation’s leading organizations dedicated to environmental sustainability.
Altogether, Practice Greenhealth lauded 51 Environmental Excellence Awards to Providence across 32 of its hospitals in 2025. The two hospitals to receive first-time awards are Providence Mission Hospital and Providence Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital.
“We’re honored to be named a System of Change for the fifth year in a row and we’re especially proud of the first-time awards for Mission and Santa Rosa this year,” Providence Chief Communication and External Affairs Officer Ali Santore said. “This important work is a win-win, not just for the environment but for our organization as well because our efforts are saving us tens of millions of dollars in operational costs annually.”
Five Providence hospitals received Top 25 Environmental Excellent Awards — Practice Greenhealth’s highest honors for hospitals leading in sustainability performance and demonstrating comprehensive sustainability programs inherent to organizational culture. Swedish Edmonds joined previous winners Providence St. Patrick Hospital, Swedish Cherry Hill, Swedish First Hill and Swedish Issaquah in receiving this award.
Providence also came away with Circles of Excellence, Greenhealth Emerald, and Greenhealth Partner for Change awards. It’s the third consecutive year that Providence has received more than 50 awards from Practice Greenhealth.
“Our vision of health for a better world and our environmental goals aren’t possible unless all of us work together toward them,” Providence Chief Environmental Stewardship Office Beth Schenk said. “Receiving 51 Practice Greenhealth awards, with two more hospitals joining us in receiving awards, shows that our caregivers are all-in on this work. I’m extremely thankful for their commitment, it makes our work that much easier with so many people joining us.”
