Virtual Care Frequently Asked Questions

ExpressCare Virtual is convenient, face-to face care, wherever you are.

Connect with one of our board-certified clinicians through secure video chat on your smartphone, tablet or computer. Talk with them about your symptoms, and they can diagnose and treat the minor medical concerns that you’re dealing with.

They can also prescribe medication or lab work as needed.

Anyone can use ExpressCare Virtual that resides in Alaska, California, Montana, New Mexico, Oregon, Texas or Washington. You just need access to a laptop, tablet or smartphone that’s connected to the Internet.

Head to virtual.providence.org or download the Providence App to get started.

We welcome patients with or without insurance. You don’t need to be a Providence patient.

Yes, they can! Patients of all ages can use ExpressCare Virtual, but parents or guardians need to start the process.

If you’re a parent or guardian, set up your account at virtual.providence.org or the Providence App. Then you can add your child’s information.

Your child will appear as a “minor dependent” on your account. Make sure your child is present for the visit so the clinician can evaluate their condition.

Yes. After diagnosing your concern and coming up with a treatment plan, your doctor can call in a prescription to your local pharmacy. Of course, the prescription needs to be in line with state laws and what’s medically appropriate.

While we don’t refill or prescribe controlled medications – for example, narcotic pain medications, opioids, benzodiazepines, schedule medications, etc. – we can evaluate your medical condition. You will need to talk to your prescribing clinician for controlled medication refills.

We are available from:

  • 7 a.m. - 7 p.m. Alaska Time (AKT)
  • 8 a.m. - 8 p.m. Pacific Time (PT)
  • 9 a.m. - 9 p.m. Mountain Time (MT)
  • 10 a.m. - 10 p.m. Central Time (CT)

Yes, you’ll have to set up an account first, but it only takes a minute or two. Once it’s all set up, you can use your account log-in if you need another virtual visit in the future.

ExpressCare Virtual clinicians are Providence nurse practitioners and physician assistants who also work in our local, neighborhood clinics. They are dedicated to delivering compassionate care.

Your clinician will design a treatment plan to ease your symptoms after you’ve talked and been evaluated. While antibiotics are effective for bacterial infections, for common viral illnesses like colds, flu or mono, they don’t do anything.

If you take antibiotics when they aren’t needed, it can lead to antibiotic resistance – which means that antibiotics might not work as well when you really need them.

Yes, you’ll receive an after-visit summary through a secure email after your visit. If you have a MyChart account, you will also receive an after-visit summary in your MyChart inbox.
