Our Approach
At the Pavilion for Women and Children, we’re proud to offer the only Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) in Snohomish County. That means we’re uniquely equipped to care for:
- Infants with serious medical conditions or needing surgery
- Newborns that require advanced respiratory support, imaging, or subspecialist consultations
- Preterm babies born before 32 weeks
We also offer seamless coordination for high-risk pregnancies through our on-site Maternal Fetal Medicine team and comprehensive maternity services all conveniently located under one roof.

Whether your baby arrives early, needs additional support or requires specialized care, we’ll be there to support and treat them. Our Level III NICU offers advanced treatments and pediatric subspecialists, enriched by our partnership with Seattle Children’s Hospital. Combined with our nationally recognized maternity care program, we bring top-tier care to your family and the community.
Being Snohomish County’s only designated Level III NICU means that we’re qualified to offer everything a Level I basic care well-born and a Level II special nursery do, but additionally we can offer:
- Advanced diagnostic imaging, including computed tomography, echocardiography and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)
- Care for infants born before 32 weeks and/or weighing less than 1,500 grams (3.3 lbs.)
- Care for infants with critical illnesses, of any gestational age and any birthweight
- Experts that are focused on pediatric care, including anesthesiologists, ophthalmologists, pediatric medical subspecialists and surgeons
- Full respiratory and ventilation support, including conventional, high-frequency and inhaled nitric oxide
Our NICU team is nationally recognized for both expertise and compassion. Your baby will be cared for by a full, on-site team including:
- Board-certified neonatologists and neonatal nurse practitioners – available 24/7
- Highly trained NICU nurses who specialize in premature and critically ill newborns
- Pediatric subspecialists in partnership with Seattle Children’s for complex cases
- Lactation consultants, respiratory therapists, physical therapists and social workers supporting every aspect of your baby’s health and development
We know how important the bond is between you and your baby. That’s why we encourage skin-to-skin contact, hands-on involvement and personalized education. We provide resources, guidance and support to help you feel confident and prepared to care for your new baby.
We offer a modern, peaceful space that supports your baby’s recovery and your family’s comfort:
- Private single and twin rooms, many with sleeper sofas and rocking chairs so parents or legal guardians can stay close
- Nearby skilled NICU nurse stations for attentive, 24/7 monitoring
- Quiet, secure environment to promote development and reduce stress for infants and loved ones

Frequently Asked Questions
The NICU department is located on the second floor of the Pavilion for Women and Children building on our Pacific Campus at 900 Pacific Ave, Everett, WA 98201.

General visiting hours in the NICU are 7 a.m. - 10 p.m.
There may be a total of four visitors in the NICU room during visiting hours. After 10 p.m., there may be one visitor. You can view our visitor guidelines on the Patients and Visitors page.
You’re allowed to visit your baby as their parent or legal guardian any time. Some of our private rooms include sleeper sofas, if you’d like to stay overnight.
Additional visitors may include the baby’s siblings or other loved ones, including extended family and friends. Any visitor that isn’t a legal guardian must comply with our visitor guidelines that include a maximum number of visitors in the NICU room and visiting hours.
Depending on your baby’s needs and the doctor’s recommendations, you may be able to hold them while they’re in the NICU. We strongly encourage bonding time, including skin-to-skin contact and breast feeding, but recognize that in certain situations the medical requirements may determine if your baby can be moved or picked up.
You don’t need to bring much while your baby is in the NICU. If you’d like to bring a few personal items, like a blanket or a family photo, you’re welcome to do so.
Absolutely. Once your baby has been admitted to our NICU, we begin helping you for the transition to go back home. Our expert team will provide hands-on education, including how to feed, bathe or manage medications for your newborn so you feel comfortable and prepared to return home.
