Bridging health care gaps for underserved families at the Helen Caloggero Women’s and Family Center

In 2024, the Helen Caloggero Women’s and Family Center, in partnership with St. Jude Neighborhood Health Centers, opened its doors with a mission to provide comprehensive health care services to underserved families in our community.
Located at Providence St. Joseph Hospital in Orange, Calif., the center offers a wide range of services. These include women’s health, pediatrics, case management, comprehensive perinatal services program, health education, immunizations, mental health counseling, social work services and enrollment assistance for Medi-Cal and financial assistance.
The space also features La Amistad, a federally qualified health clinic, with OB-GYN and pediatric services for underserved members of the community. This clinic is a crucial part of the center, providing essential health services to those who need them the most.
The impact on the community is profound. “I love helping the underserved population. It's so rewarding to assist those in need and see how much they appreciate it,” said Cindy Nahkla, M.D.
By removing barriers to ensure care, the Helen Caloggero Women’s and Family Center is a true example of how we are addressing health equity in our communities.
The center’s development and operation have been made possible through generous financial and philanthropic support through local donors. Providence St. Joseph Hospital Foundation provided support with a gift of $1.3 million for tenant improvement and equipment, while an operating grant of approximately $200,000 ensures the center is well-equipped to serve the community’s health care needs.
The Helen Caloggero Women’s and Family Center is more than just a health care facility; it's a beacon of hope. By bridging health care gaps and ensuring accessible care for all, the center embodies our mission to invest in and uplift our communities.
