As of June 25, 2025, Providence St. Jude Medical Center has achieved Magnet with Distinction recognition, a reflection of its nursing professionalism, teamwork and superiority in patient care. Awarded by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), the Magnet with Distinction Recognition Program distinguishes organizations that not only meet, but exceed, the rigorous standards for nursing excellence. This marks the hospital’s third Magnet designation and its first time receiving the prestigious Magnet with Distinction honor—placing Providence St. Jude among an elite group of just five hospitals in California and only 34 nationwide, or 0.5 percent, to earn this distinction.

“Earning Magnet with Distinction is an incredible honor that reflects the unwavering commitment to innovation and superior patient outcomes,” said Julie Kim, Chief Nursing Officer at Providence St. Jude. “It’s a powerful testament to the extraordinary skill, compassion and commitment of our teams, and a proud moment for our entire medical center.”

Research shows that Magnet organizations provide benefits to health care organizations and their communities, such as higher patient satisfaction with nurse communication, availability of help and receipt of discharge information. The research also shows there is higher job satisfaction among caregivers.

The Magnet Model is the gold standard for nursing excellence and evaluates hospitals across five key components: transformational leadership, structural empowerment, new knowledge and innovations, exemplary professional practice and empirical outcomes. It serves as a blueprint for delivering exceptional care and advancing nursing practice.

“This recognition embodies the culture of excellence and compassion that defines Providence St. Jude,” said Laura Ramos, Chief Executive. “It celebrates the dedication of our nurses and caregivers and highlights the power of interdisciplinary collaboration in delivering the highest level of care to our community.”
